Ready for a Smash Hit

This iconic burger recipe has a crispy, caramelized crust that forms as the burger cooks quickly. Top that off with cheese and all the fixings, and you just experienced the perfect patty on your favorite Wonder® Classic Hamburger Bun.

You’ll Need:

Sauce:

  • 1 cup finely chopped dill pickles

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise

  • 2 tbsp ketchup

  • 1/2 tsp salt

Burger:

  • 3 Wonder® Classic Hamburger Buns

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground chuck, 80/20

  • 3 tbsp butter

  • 2 cups shredded Iceberg lettuce

  • 3 thin tomato slices

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 6 slices of American cheese

  • Parchment paper, cut into 4-inch squares

  • 1/2 tsp salt

Follow these steps:

  1. In a medium bowl, mix together pickles, mayonnaise, ketchup, and 1/2 tsp salt. Place your sauce in the refrigerator until you're ready to assemble the burger.

  2. Divide beef into six 4-oz portions. Form them into meatballs and refrigerate them.

  3. Preheat the griddle to medium.

  4. Spread butter on the inside of your Wonder® Classic Hamburger Buns.

  5. Place the buns, buttered side down on the griddle. Toast until golden brown, then set aside on a plate.

  6. Next, prepare your griddle for the burgers by drizzling it with vegetable oil. Use paper towels to coat the surface evenly. The oil needs to be hot, so wait until you start to see a little smoke.

  7. Place meatballs on the griddle, and using a metal spatula, smash each ball to 1/4-inch-thick patties. Using the handle of a second spatula or meat mallet, push down on the top of the spatula to add leverage. Use parchment between the spatula to keep the beef from sticking.

  8. Cook undisturbed until the outer edges are brown and the undersides are very crisp; sear for 2-3 minutes.

  9. Quickly flip and top the patty with a slice of cheese. Sear for another minute, place a plain patty on top of the cheese patty and add another slice of cheese.

  10. Assembly time! Spread sauce on your buns. Place shredded lettuce on the bottom and top with a tomato slice. Place your double cheeseburger on top and add the top bun.
